How to Fix a Tumble Dryer Display Showing Error Codes Modern tumble dryers are equipped with advanced diagnostic systems that display error codes when a fault is detected. These error codes provide valuable insights into the specific issue affecting the dryer, allowing for targeted troubleshooting. Understanding and interpreting these error codes can significantly reduce the

How to Fix a Tumble Dryer Cycling Thermostat Stuck Open or Closed The cycling thermostat in a tumble dryer regulates the temperature by cycling the heating element on and off as needed. If this thermostat becomes stuck open or closed, the dryer may not heat properly or may overheat. A stuck cycling thermostat can lead

How to Fix a Tumble Dryer Timer Not Advancing or Stuck The timer in a tumble dryer controls the duration of the drying cycle, advancing through each stage (e.g., heating, cooling, and ending) to ensure clothes are dried properly. If the timer is not advancing or is stuck, the dryer may not complete its cycles,

How to Fix a Tumble Dryer High-Limit Thermostat Tripped The high-limit thermostat in a tumble dryer is a safety device that shuts off the heating element if the dryer overheats. If this thermostat trips, the dryer may stop heating or fail to start entirely. A tripped high-limit thermostat is often a sign of an underlying

How to Fix Tumble Dryer Electronic Controls Unresponsive The electronic controls in a tumble dryer allow users to select and manage drying cycles, temperatures, and other settings. If the electronic controls become unresponsive, the dryer may not start, may stop mid-cycle, or may fail to respond to user inputs. Unresponsive electronic controls can be caused

The cycle selector switch in a tumble dryer allows users to choose the desired drying cycle, such as cotton, synthetic, or delicate. If this switch is faulty, the dryer may not start, may not respond to user inputs, or may run the wrong cycle. A faulty cycle selector switch can disrupt the dryer’s operation and

Tumble Dryer Not Heating or Insufficient Heat A tumble dryer that tumbles clothes normally but leaves them cold or barely warm at the end of a cycle is one of the most frequent complaints technicians see. The drum motor working fine while the heat fails points to a fault isolated to the heating circuit rather

Tumble Dryer Overheating and Cutting Out A dryer that starts a cycle normally but then shuts off partway through, sometimes accompanied by a burning smell or a hot cabinet, is overheating — and it will keep doing so until the underlying airflow or electrical issue is resolved. Common causes Blocked or crushed exhaust venting, the

Tumble Dryer Taking Too Long to Dry Clothes When drying times stretch from the usual 45–60 minutes to well over 90 minutes, with clothes coming out damp, the dryer is running but not doing its job efficiently. This is rarely a single dramatic failure — it's usually a combination of reduced airflow and reduced heat.

Tumble Dryer Not Tumbling but Motor Running This is a distinctive fault: you can hear the motor humming or running, sometimes with a faint smell of hot rubber, but the drum itself stays completely still. Common causes A snapped or badly slipped drive belt — by far the most common cause A seized idler pulley

Tumble Dryer Making Loud Banging or Grinding Noises Banging usually means something is striking a hard surface with each drum rotation; grinding usually means metal-on-metal contact from a worn support component. Common causes A broken or collapsed drum roller, letting the drum sag and strike the cabinet A worn drum bearing, producing a rhythmic grinding

Tumble Dryer Making Squealing or Screeching Sounds A high-pitched squeal, especially one that's louder when the dryer first starts and fades slightly as it runs, usually points to friction somewhere in the belt or motor system rather than the drum's structural supports. Common causes A drive belt that has glazed over and lost grip, slipping
