Ariston Washing Machine Error Codes
Ariston washing machines (part of the Whirlpool group in most markets, sold historically as Hotpoint-Ariston in Europe) use an F-number fault code system, typically shown as "F" followed by two digits on the display, or through a specific pattern of flashing lights on models without a screen.
F05 – Drain pump fault. The pump isn't working, or the pressure switch can't confirm the tub has emptied. Check the filter, drain hose, and any siphon or sewer connection for blockages first; if those are clear, the drain pump sensor or the pump itself is the likely cause, and a repeat F11 after restarting often confirms it's the pump sensor specifically.
F06 – Control panel button fault. Less commonly seen than other codes; it points to a problem with the display's buttons or the connectors between the control panel and the electronic module. On Arcadia-electronics models, F06 instead indicates a faulty door lock sensor, so the exact meaning depends on which control system your machine uses.
F07 – Heater relay stuck, or heating circuit fault. The washer may pump continuously without heating the water, or the wash cycle keeps pausing. Component continuity needs checking with a multimeter across the heater relay, the heating element itself, and the connecting wiring.
F08 – Heater relay can't activate. A step further than F07 — the heater relay's contacts have an open circuit, or the water-level sensor is stuck in the "full" position and preventing the heater from engaging. This usually needs a technician to test and replace the faulty component.
F09 – Software fault. The machine won't let you select a program. A power-cycle reset (unplug for a few minutes) often clears a one-off software glitch; a fault that returns immediately usually means the control module needs reflashing or replacing.
F10 – Pressure switch fault. The water-level sensor isn't reading correctly. Check the sensing hose between the tub and the switch for kinks or disconnection before assuming the switch itself has failed.
F11 – Drain pump circuit fault. Water remains in the bottom of the machine and isn't being pumped out. This overlaps closely with F05; check pump wiring and connections, and test the pump for continuity with a multimeter.
F12 – Electronic control fault. A communication error is preventing the appliance from turning on properly. This points to the main control board and generally needs professional diagnosis.
F13 – Dryer temperature sensing fault (washer-dryer combo models only). The drying function isn't sensing temperature correctly, usually due to a faulty dryer fan or thermistor.
F15 to F18 – Drying-related faults (combo models). This range covers drying not starting, not stopping, or a temperature control fault specifically in the drying cycle, distinct from the washing faults above.
Preventing Ariston Error Codes
Because F05 and F11 are consistently the most commonly reported Ariston faults, keeping the drain path clear should be the top maintenance priority. Clean the pump filter every couple of months and check the drain hose and any connected siphon for buildup at least twice a year. Keep the pressure switch's sensing hose in mind too — since a surprising number of "sensor fault" codes on Ariston machines turn out to be nothing more than a pinched or disconnected hose rather than a failed component, it's worth a visual check before ordering parts. Avoid running the machine on a wash program hotter than needed for a given load, since Ariston's heater relay (behind F07 and F08) sees disproportionate wear on machines run frequently at 90°C. If your machine is a washer-dryer combo, clean the condenser and fluff filter regularly, since a clogged drying system is closely tied to the F13 and F15–F18 drying faults documented above.
When to Call a Professional
Software glitches (F09) and pressure sensor faults tied to a simple hose kink (F10) are worth checking yourself first. Anything involving the heater relay, drain pump motor, or main control board (F07, F08, F11, F12) generally needs multimeter testing and is best handled by an Ariston-experienced technician.
