Purpose
Cycle-specific functional testing involves running individual cycles (fill, wash, drain, spin) in service or diagnostic mode to isolate which stage of the washing process is failing. This step helps pinpoint the exact component or system causing the issue, allowing for targeted repairs. By testing each cycle separately, you can observe the machine’s behavior and identify anomalies in motor speed, valve operation, or timing.
Steps Involved
- Enter Diagnostic Mode: Refer to the manufacturer’s service manual to enter the machine’s diagnostic or service mode. This mode allows you to run individual cycles independently.
- Test Fill Cycle: Start the fill cycle and observe whether the machine fills with water to the correct level. Check for issues such as slow filling, no filling, or overfilling.
- Test Wash Cycle: Run the wash cycle and observe the drum’s movement. Check for issues such as the drum not rotating, unusual noises, or incorrect agitation speed.
- Test Drain Cycle: Start the drain cycle and observe whether the machine drains water properly. Check for issues such as slow draining, no draining, or water remaining in the drum.
- Test Spin Cycle: Run the spin cycle and observe the drum’s rotation. Check for issues such as the drum not spinning, excessive vibration, or unusual noises.
- Observe Timing and Behavior: Note the timing of each cycle and any unusual behavior, such as the machine stopping mid-cycle or failing to transition between cycles.
