Panasonic Washing Machine Error Codes

Panasonic washing machines use two families of codes: "U" codes, which generally cover water, drainage, and load-related faults, and "H" codes, which cover hardware and electronic faults like motor, sensor, and communication errors. Both appear directly on the digital display.

U11 – Draining fault. The washer can't pump water out properly. Clean the drain pump filter, usually found in the front bottom corner of the machine, check the connected hoses for blockages, and inspect the pump itself if cleaning the filter doesn't resolve it.

U12 – Lid or door not detected as closed. The main control board can't confirm the door is shut, which can be a genuinely open door, a broken door lock hook, a weakened lock spring, or loose wiring at the door lock harness. Make sure the door is shut firmly and inspect the lock hook for damage.

U13 – Load imbalance / can't spin. The machine couldn't balance the laundry evenly enough to proceed to spin. Redistribute the load around the drum and restart.

U14 – Water supply fault. The machine isn't filling correctly. Check the tap, hose, and inlet filter for the usual culprits — closed valve, kinked hose, or clogged screen.

U18 – Pump or drain filter instability. The control board has detected an inconsistent reading from the drain system. Clean and reseat the drain filter, and check that it's screwed in fully and evenly.

U99 – Water forcibly drained. A safety response where the machine has drained the tub itself, usually following another fault that made it unsafe to continue with water in the drum.

H07 – Tachometer signal fault. The motor speed sensor is sending an irregular or out-of-range signal. This points to the tachometer itself or its wiring and generally needs professional testing.

H09 – Communication fault. The power board and display board aren't communicating properly. A full power-cycle reset can clear a temporary glitch; a persistent H09 usually means one of the boards needs replacing.

H18 – Motor thermistor fault. The motor's temperature sensor is reporting an irregular signal. Check the motor connections before assuming the thermistor itself has failed.

H23 – Heater relay fault. The heater relay on the main control PCB is reporting an abnormal or out-of-range condition, generally pointing to the electronic controller rather than the heating element itself.

H25 – Motor fault. Points to a wiring problem with the main drive motor. This typically needs a technician to isolate whether it's the motor, the wiring harness, or the control board.

H27 – Door lock latch fault. The door lock can't engage properly with the latch, distinct from U12's "door not detected as closed" — H27 specifically flags a mechanical latching problem.

Preventing Panasonic Error Codes

Because U11 and U12 account for the majority of Panasonic fault reports, the drain filter and door lock deserve the most routine attention. Clean the drain pump filter in the front bottom corner of the machine every couple of months, and check the door lock hook and its spring for wear whenever you notice the door feeling less firm than usual to close. Balance loads by mixing item sizes rather than washing one large piece alone, since U13 is almost always a load-distribution issue rather than a hardware fault. Keep an eye on detergent dosing too — Panasonic's drain filter instability code (U18) is often reported alongside excess suds, so switching to a properly measured HE detergent can reduce how often it appears. For machines showing early signs of an H-code, such as occasional communication glitches that clear on their own, a full power-cycle reset after unplugging for a minute or two is worth trying before assuming a board-level fault, since Panasonic's own guidance treats this as the standard first response to most H-family codes.

When to Call a Professional

U-codes tied to filters, hoses, and load balance (U11, U13, U14, U18) are the most approachable for DIY troubleshooting. H-codes almost always point to an electronic or motor component and are best diagnosed by a Panasonic-experienced technician with the right test equipment.
